Cardinals Take 2/3 On Opening Weekend

Mineral Area College Cardinals Open Their 2025 Season in Pensacola, FL

The Mineral Area College Cardinals kicked off their 2025 baseball season with a strong showing on the road in Pensacola, FL, where they played a pair of games against Pensacola State College and a single game against Northwest-Shoals Community College.

Game 1: January 30, 2025 – Mineral Area College 5, Pensacola State College 1

The Cardinals' opening game was an exciting one, with a solid win over Pensacola State College. The game started slowly but quickly picked up momentum in the later innings. Pensacola State got on the board early in the first, but Mineral Area responded with a big 3-run fifth inning that ultimately put the game out of reach for the home team.

  • Cam Lee led the Cardinals offensively, going 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI.
  • Brad Chaisson contributed with a pair of RBIs, going 1-for-3.
  • Jonah Sarabia was stellar on the mound, picking up the win after pitching 5 innings, allowing just 2 hits, and striking out 6.
  • Oliver Martel also impressed, throwing a scoreless 1 inning with 3 strikeouts.

Game 2: February 1, 2025 – Mineral Area College 0, Pensacola State College 12

After their impressive win earlier in the day, the Cardinals faced a much tougher challenge in the second game of the day, as they fell to host Pensacola State. The home team exploded for 12 runs in a 12-0 victory, highlighted by a 7-run second inning.

Key Performances:

  • The Cardinals struggled to generate offense, with Cam Lee and Garrison Barile recording the only hits for the Cardinals.
  • Mathew Marsh took the loss on the mound, allowing 6 earned runs in just 2 innings of work.

Game 3: February 1, 2025 – Northwest-Shoals Community College 1, Mineral Area College 4

The Cardinals returned to their winning ways in their second game on February 1, defeating Northwest-Shoals Community College 4-1.

Key Performances:

  • Cam Lee once again provided a spark for the offense, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs.
  • Allen Hernandez added an RBI in the victory, and Angelo Franco also contributed with a hit and a run.
  • Kai Langford started on the mound for the Cardinals, picking up the win after pitching 4 strong innings, allowing just 2 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 6.
  • Oliver Martel closed out the game, earning the save with a dominant 1-inning appearance, striking out 3 batters.

The Cardinals will take their 2-1 record on the road to Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit, Mississippi.  On Friday, February 7, the Cardinals will take on the host Bears at 6pm.  The two teams will hook up against on Saturday, February 8 for a double-header starting at 2pm.
