Cardinals Dominate In Series Sweep Over Coahoma CC
CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The MAC baseball team delivered an impressive offensive and pitching performance over the weekend, sweeping a four-game road series against Coahoma Community College on Feb. 20–21.
Mineral Area outscored Coahoma 53–8 across the series, earning victories of 12–2, 12–5, 13–1 and 16–0.
Game 1 — Mineral Area 12, Coahoma 2
The Cardinals opened the series with a strong all-around performance, collecting 12 hits and four home runs. Tanner Fujino led the offense with three hits, including a triple and home run, while Peyton Kight drove in three runs and Cash Bailey added a two-run homer.
On the mound, Jett Sutton earned the win, striking out six over four innings while allowing just one hit. Relievers Trent Gallagher and Carson McDaniel combined for three scoreless innings to close out the victory.
Game 2 — Mineral Area 12, Coahoma 5
Mineral Area broke open a scoreless contest with an eight-run fourth inning to secure the sweep's second win. Carson Shee paced the Cardinals with three hits and four RBIs, while Kight added four RBIs and Fujino drove in two.
Aiden Dodson picked up the win, allowing one hit over four scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Dominic Sutton provided strong relief to help seal the game.
Game 3 — Mineral Area 13, Coahoma 1
The Cardinals continued their offensive surge in the third game, highlighted by a dominant effort from Sam Weinstein, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs. Tucker Thompson added three hits and four RBIs, while Clemson Julian contributed two hits and two stolen bases.
Tyson Greenwood earned the win, allowing one run over four innings, and JD Clarke finished the game with a scoreless inning in relief.
Game 4 — Mineral Area 16, Coahoma 0
Mineral Area capped the series with its most decisive win, scoring 16 runs on 13 hits in a run-rule victory. Christian Kiper powered the offense with a home run and four RBIs, while Weinstein added three RBIs and Kole Watermann homered and drove in two.
A combined pitching effort from Aidan Hartholt, Alex Jung, John Hood, and Cole Murray held Coahoma scoreless and allowed just two hits while striking out eight.
Series Leaders
Fujino and Shee anchored the Cardinals' offense throughout the series, combining for multiple extra-base hits and key RBIs. Weinstein delivered one of the weekend's top performances with nine RBIs across four games, while Kiper and Kight provided consistent run production.
On the mound, Mineral Area pitchers dominated, allowing just eight runs in four games. Sutton, Dodson, Greenwood, and Hartholt each earned wins, while the Cardinals' bullpen combined for multiple scoreless appearances.
The road sweep helped the Cardinals improve to 8-3 overall with MAC opening Region 16 play on Thursday, February 26 at home vs St. Louis CC.
