Cardinals Fall In Region Championship, Advance To District
The Mineral Area College Cardinals men's soccer team came up short in the Region 16 Championship, falling 3–2 to St. Louis Community College at Kirkwood High School on Saturday, November 1.
After falling behind 3–0 early in the second half, the Cardinals mounted a furious late comeback, but the clock ran out before they could find an equalizer.
St. Louis CC struck twice in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Mineral Area's defense settled in late in the half, but the Archers struck again early in the second period to make it 3–0, seemingly putting the match out of reach.
Cardinals kept battling and in the 84th minute, Kobe Bewicke finally put Mineral Area on the board, finishing a cross from Callum Chauhan to make it 3–1. Just two minutes later, Zepplin Macdonald buried a pass from Stephen Tchoudi, but that was all the Cardinals were able to get past the Archers, with the game ending 3-2.
Despite the loss, MAC advances to the Central District Championship on November 7-8, hosted by St. Louis CC. The Cardinals will take on Parkland College in a 2pm semifinal match on November 7 with the winner taking on National Park or St. Louis CC on November 8 for the district championship.
