Cardinals Claim Region Title, Prepare For National Meet

The MAC men's cross country team made a statement on Friday, October 24, running away with the Region 16 Championship.

The Cardinals placed six runners in the top seven to capture the team title, showcasing the program's depth. Sophomore Garrett Shortt led the way for MAC, finishing second overall in 28 minutes, 18.34 seconds, a personal best.

Freshman Lucas Campbell wasn't far behind, taking third in 28:21.29, followed closely by a tight pack of freshmen — Jaxson Grimes (5th, 28:25.90), Brandt Rachel (6th, 28:57.65), and Lucas Naucke (7th, 29:07.77) — all recording lifetime bests. Sophomore Blake Dorris added an eighth-place finish in 29:28.23, securing the team's win.

Freshman Josh Horrell also turned in a strong showing, placing 11th in 31:18.06 — yet another personal best.

With the regional crown secured, Mineral Area will now shift focus to the NJCAA Division III National Championship, set for November 8 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
