MAC Picks Up Split Against St. Charles

The Mineral Area College softball team came away with a split against MCCAC opponent St. Charles CC on Thursday, March 30.

In game one, MAC fell behind early and trailed 5-0 after just two innings.  The Cardinal offense struggled to get going against the Cougars and MAC fell by a final score of 5-1.  Picking up hits for the Cardinals were Elly Pattengill, Chloe Coppedge and Chelbi Poucher.  Poucher finished the game with two hits and drove in the lone run for MAC.  Alyssa Spane took the loss in the circle, pitching four innings and allowing five runs on seven hits.

In game two, the Cardinals responded with three runs in the first inning.  St. Charles threatened in multiple innings, but MAC's pitching was able to limit the damage early.  A three-run 5th inning gave the Cardinals some breathing room as they cruised to a 6-3 win.

Leading the way offensively for MAC were Elly Pattengill (2 hits, 1 run, 1 RBI), Alyssa Brown (1 hit, 1 run), Macy Houart (2 hits, 1 run, 1 RBI), Chloe Coppedge (1 hit), Cate Davis (1 hit, 1 RBI), Jules Johnson (1 hit, 1 run), and Chelbi Poucher (1 hit, 2 RBI).  Brittney Kreitler and Alyssa Spane also scored runs for the Cardinals.

Mattison Webb earned her first win of the season in the circle, pitching six innings and allowing three runs on five hits.  Alyssa Brown threw a scoreless inning in the seventh to pick up the save.

With the split, MAC moves to 2-23 on the season and 2-4 in MCCAC play. The Cardinals will return to action on Tuesday, April 4 when they host Jefferson College for 2:00pm double-header.
