Cardinals Sweep East Central To Open Region Play

Game 1: Mineral Area College 6, East Central College 2

In the first game of the doubleheader, Mineral Area College made an early statement, taking control of the game with a four-run outburst in the second inning. The Cardinals' offense was powered by key contributions from Gracie Wright, who went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, and Ainsley Burnett, who drove in two runs.

Offensive Highlights:

  • Ava Spalding led the charge at the plate with a 1-for-4 performance, including an RBI.
  • Gracie Wright contributed heavily with a 2-for-3 effort, scoring two runs and adding an RBI.
  • Ainsley Burnett knocked in two runs with a solid 1-for-2 outing, which included a sacrifice.
  • Sophie Meyer contributed a key RBI to cap off the offensive attack.

Pitching Highlights:

  • Leanna Mitts delivered a stellar performance in the circle, earning the win with a complete-game effort. Mitts threw 7 innings, allowing just 5 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 4 and walking none.

Game 2: Mineral Area College 7, East Central College 6

The second game was a thrilling contest, as Mineral Area College came from behind to secure a 7-6 win. The game featured a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning that propelled the Cardinals to victory.

Offensive Highlights:

  • Emily Hochstatter had a stellar game, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, including a key hit that helped the Cardinals in their 7th-inning rally.
  • Ainsley Burnett continued her strong performance with a 3-for-4 effort, including 3 RBIs.
  • Ava Spalding added a 2-for-4 performance, including a triple and an RBI.
  • Hailey Cantrell contributed drew the bases loaded walk off RBI walk in the win.

Pitching Highlights:

  • Libby Mesch earned the win for Mineral Area College after tossing 6.1 innings and allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 10 hits. She struck out 4 and allowed 1 home run.
  • Leanna Mitts came in relief to finish the game, allowing just 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 0.

With the wins over East Central, MAC improved to 18-8-1 overall and 2-0 in Region 16 play.  The Cardinals will return to action on Wednesday, March 26 at Arkansas State University to take on the ASU Club team.
